A tragic car accident in El Paso, Texas, on Friday claimed the life of 65-year-old Laura Lynch, one of the founding members of The Chicks (formerly known as the Dixie Chicks)..
The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a statement to NPR, confirming Lynch’s untimely demise.
As a pivotal member of the all-female country music group, Lynch contributed her skills as a bass player and vocalist for four years since the band’s establishment in 1989. The unfortunate incident occurred as she was traveling eastbound on US 62 in her 2016 Ford F-150 when her vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with another car. Despite immediate response, Lynch was pronounced dead at the scene by a justice of the peace

The other driver involved in the accident was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The music community mourns the loss of Laura Lynch, recognizing her significant role in shaping the legacy of The Chicks.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday at approximately 5:45 p.m. local time.
The musical group, now known as The Chicks after a name change in 2020, expressed deep sorrow and shock over the death of their bandmate.
In an official statement, the band conveyed their profound emotions, saying, “We are profoundly saddened by the unexpected passing of Laura. The time we shared making music, sharing laughter, and traveling together holds a special place in our hearts.”
The statement continued, highlighting Laura Lynch’s vibrant personality and significant contributions to the band’s early days. “Laura was a radiant presence whose infectious energy and humor lit up the beginnings of our musical journey. Her keen design sense, passion for all things Texan, and pivotal role in the band’s initial success are indelible aspects of her legacy. Thanks to her undeniable talents, we transitioned from street corner performances to stages across Texas and the mid-West.”
Tragically, Laura Lynch was declared deceased at the accident site, with law enforcement indicating that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The other involved vehicle caught fire, and its driver was transported to the hospital with injuries that are fortunately not life-threatening.
In 1989,Laura Lynch, along with Robin Lynn Macy, Martie Erwin, and Emily Erwin, co-founded the group, as per Billboard records. Initially serving as the upright bass player, Lynch later transitioned into a vocalist within the ensemble.
During her tenure, Lynch contributed to the creation of three albums with the group before her departure. Natalie Maines subsequently assumed her position within the band.
